The Bridge by Doug Marlette

A book EVERYONE in the United States should read. A fictional tale of how the unions were formed and why. The main character has a grandmother who played in the tragic general textile strike of 1934, one of the least-known major events of American history. The story is told through the eyes of Pick Cantrell as he uncovers family history after he gets fired from his highly successful newspaper cartoonist job and moves back home. Fascinating.
